Two months ago, a comment was left on the 2012 post, Voddie Baucham Is Sexist, by Ship Wreck. Ship Wreck sounds like a little Reformer who is fit to be tied. This Reformer is angry with me concerning my assessment of Voddie. I find the comment hilarious. Ship Wreck makes the most outlandish assumptions possible.
Ship Wreck assumes that I "as a female" am single with no intention of getting married or having kids.
That's funny. Because I've been married for over 30 years and have had four children, all grown now.
Ship Wreck assumes that I have had at least one abortion and have slept with at least ten men.
Wow, Ship Wreck. Way off. I've only ever slept with one man. Didn't sleep with him until after we were married. And I've had zero abortions.
Ship Wreck assumes that I am on birth control, like that is evil or something.
Sorry, Ship Wreck. Don't need birth control. Ever heard of menopause?
Ship Wreck assumes that my parents are divorced and I was never disciplined.
Well, Shippy. I gotta tell ya. I lost my father two years ago. If he were still alive, he and my mother would be celebrating their 60 year anniversary in August. Also, my dad was one of those fathers that told me that spanking me was going to hurt him more than me. I fully believed him because I was very much a daddy's girl. I miss him a great deal. There is nothing you can say that will diminish him in my eyes or in the eyes of God whom he served. The board of directors for the home for pregnant girls seeking to avoid abortions (that he once served on) would agree.
Ship Wreck assumes that I'm addicted to something. If coffee counts, then Shippy is correct on at least this one.
Ship Wreck assumes that I suffer from anxiety, depression, or ADD.
Well, as far as I know, I don't. But in my job, I do work with young people suffering these things. I work closely with them to help them overcome so they can grow up to live fulfilling lives. I prefer to work with people to help them overcome such obstacles. Shippy wants to accuse people of having these maladies and uses such accusation as bludgeoning weapons against people that disagree with Voddie. Nice, Shippy. Perhaps now you might understand why I have no respect for your comment and little respect for you. However, I'm not going to lower myself to your way-less-than-Christlike level because Jesus does love you no matter how misguided you are in trying to serve Him.
Then Ship Wreck instructs me to read the book of Ephesians in one sitting, which I have done before. I probably will again, sometime. But it isn't coming up right away in my scheduled Bible reading time. Right now I am in John, Romans, Psalms, and Isaiah. There is a lot of Bible to read and a lot of context to get. Context is key.
Speaking of Ephesians, I have, on more that one occasion, instructed women to read this book. But I have told them to go ahead and skip the part where Paul addresses the Aristotle Household Code. Not because that part is wrong. It is right as rain. Paul does an amazing job turning that old code on it's head using the grace and love of God. But Paul's response to Aristotle's Household Code has been misunderstood, misinterpreted, and used as a bludgeoning tool against women by abusive husbands and pastors for hundreds of years causing bitterness and severe PTSD.
As mentioned in the previous post, I am heart-sick over all the bitterness caused by the errant teachings of men like Voddie. I've said it before. I will say it again. Voddie is sexist and interprets the Bible in a way that raises men and fathers up as idols and oppresses women and mothers down to doormats making both ineffective and unable to produce spiritual fruit.
Ship Wreck is in agreement with Voddie. Ship Wreck is wrong on all assumptions concerning me (except about coffee). Ship Wreck and Voddie have a broken and bitter understanding of scripture that leads to shipwrecked faith. May God lead them out of the darkness that has defiled and devastated countless lives.

The Violent Take It By Force
It is hard to watch. It is hard to hear about. But it is not something that I can pretend is not happening.
Matthew 11:12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence [is forcibly entered], and violent men take it by force [seize it for themselves].
The Southern Baptist Convention is being taken over by men, by force. That once paragon of Christian grace and promoter of "the priesthood of the believer" is being taken over by power hungry men who seek to build their own kingdoms. Under shepherds are infiltrating the sheep pen to fleece the flock and lay heavy burdens upon them.
Here is the latest move by Al Mohler. He closed the independent music department so that he could move his own guys in.
Who Calls the Tune in the Southern Baptist Convention
Men, who claim authority unto themselves, who cover over the sins of pedophiles in order to save face and to keep hold of their ill gotten places of power in the Kingdom, these men seek to rule and reign on this earth in God's name. They are no different than the Pharaohs of Egypt, the Pharisees in the days of Jesus, and the Borgia Popes during the times of the worse corruption in the Catholic Church.
First they twist scripture to make it say what they want it to say to support their position:
Jeremiah 8:8 How can you say, 'we are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us'?
But behold, the lying pen of the scribe has made it into a lie.
Then they congratulate each other on being such great men of God and being so theologically brilliant and being so holy etc...:
John 5:44 How can you believe; when you receive glory [honor or fame] from one another and you do not seek the glory [honor or fame] from the one and only God.
Men see the church as an opportunity to advance themselves and build their own kingdoms. They take up residence as kings and lords of the manor claiming they speak for God when really they speak from the darkness of their own hearts.
I see this over and over again. I saw it in the abusive church I went to back in the 80s. I see it in Driscoll now. And now I see it taking over SBC. It is a time for mourning.

No Yoke of Slavery for You
Galatians 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free, therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Why did Christ set us free? For the sake of freedom.
Note, this is gender inclusive. This isn't just freedom for men, but for women also. There is no pink and blue freedom, different kinds of freedom for whatever gender you are.
This is radical, Spirit Wind freedom that we must continue to stand in and defend.
Paul warns them and us against subjecting ourselves to a yoke of slavery. He warns us against the teachings that say the works of the flesh earn us God's favor.
Yet there is much teaching about submitting and subjecting in the church today concerning women. Who is teaching it? Fearful men who are afraid of radically free women.
Jesus said, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32)
But all preachers don't preach the truth. Some preachers preach the lie of patriarchy that sucks away freedom from people and makes them people of the Law rather that people of the Spirit Wind. Some preachers preach rigid roles and rules for individuals, legalism. And these preachers suck the life and wind right out of individuals.

John 8:36 If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

People of the Spirit Wind
John 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
This scripture is found in the same chapter and same conversation as the famous John 3:16 verse and where Jesus talks about being born again.
And if this verse doesn't speak of the freedom of God's people, I don't know what does. The wind blows where it wills. This is what the people who are born of the Spirit should be like. They are to be free.
This concept is extremely frightening to people who embrace rigid structure. This appears to be a frightening thought to many men when they think of their women, mothers, wives, daughters. What are they afraid of? That their women will abandon them? Fly away like the wind? No wonder some men feel compelled to control. They fear abandonment if their women are given 'too much' freedom.
It's funny. I never hear preachers preach on this verse. You hear about the conversation between Nicodemus and Jesus about being born again and about God loving the world so much that He gave...
But who ever talks about those born of the Spirit and how they are like the wind?
Are there no messages about being as free as the wind because men are afraid people will be gone with the wind?
There is some concern over this. After all, wasn't it here, on this blog, that I linked a review for Wild at Heart by a woman whose husband read the book, then he was gone with the wind?
Yes. Radical freedom can be a frightening thing. Perhaps this is why preachers don't preach it. Perhaps this is why, instead of freedom and liberty for the captives, structure and roles and 'divine' order are taught. It's because of fear.
And people are being crushed under the weight of so much order keeping people in their places. People of the Spirit wind were not created to bear such heavy loads. You can't fly free when you are overburdened by structure and order.
People of the Spirit wind need to be released from the oppressive structures of religion so that they can mount up with eagles wings when they wait on the Lord.
